When you start to brush the teeth of your pet for the first time, soak the Petosan toothbrush in lukewarm water to make bristles softer. Brush on a daily basis for a few days using this procedure. When the pet has become familiar with brushing, just wet the brush and add toothpaste. Select an appropriate toothpaste formulated for pets. Do not use human toothpaste.

Starting at an early age is an advantage, but even older pets will accept the routine when approached in a gentle manner.

- Place the toothbrush over the teeth. The bristles will be directed to the gumline at the recommended angle of 45 degrees. Cover a few teeth at a time. Ten short back and forth motions should be completed before moving to the next position. Special attention should be given to the outside of the posterior teeth where tartar tends to form. Tilting the brush slightly from side to side while scrubbing give the best results.

- Be sure to direct the bristles into the area around the neck of the tooth, as well as into the space between the teeth.
